Phobia Therapy
Phobia therapy is a specialized treatment designed to help people overcome intense fears that interfere with daily life.
I regularly work with those who find themselves avoiding places, activities, or situations that trigger intense fear and sometimes panic. You might notice physical reactions like a racing heart, shaking, or feeling overwhelmed when you think about or come into contact with what you’re afraid of. Over time, these responses can start to impact relationships, work or school, and overall wellbeing.
I have experience working with a range of phobias, and I use evidence-based approaches such as Exposure and Response Prevention and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, both widely used and well-supported in the treatment of phobias and anxiety. Together, we work to reduce avoidance and gradually shift how your body and mind respond to triggers.
Our sessions are collaborative and paced in a way that feel manageable, with a focus on building a toolkit you can use outside of sessions as well.
If you’re tired of fear running the show and want to start taking back some control, phobia therapy can help.
At Levy Therapy, I offer virtual therapy sessions across Ontario and Quebec so you can do this work from the comfort and privacy of your own space. If you don’t see an available appointment time, feel free to reach out or add yourself to my waitlist.
Special Interest Areas:
1
Animal Phobia Therapy
Phobias related to animals, such as dogs, birds, snakes, or insects, can make everyday environments feel stressful and hard to navigate. I have training in animal-assisted therapy and, when appropriate, I can thoughtfully and confidently incorporate this into our work. This can include working with my own beloved pets to help gently bridge the gap in ways that support you in facing these fears, at your own pace. Animal-related phobias can develop for many different reasons, but they are very approachable with the right support.
2
Emetophobia Therapy
Some people experience an intense fear related to vomiting phobia, whether that’s being sick themselves, seeing others unwell, or even being in situations where it could happen. Emetophobia can be debilitating, often leading to a great deal of anticipatory anxiety. Over time it can start to impact life plans and goals, as well as increase avoidance of certain foods, places, or social situations. This type of fear is more common than many people realize and it can be addressed in stages, with supportive therapy that helps you feel more in control over time.
3
Social Anxiety Therapy
Social anxiety often presents as an intense fear of being judged, critcized, or embarrassed in front of others, especially those who are unfamiliar. You might avoid certain situations, overthink conversations before or after they happen, worry about saying something “wrong” or “dumb” or feel stuck in patterns that are hard to break. This can be really exhausting and lead to feelings of dread. By gradually reducing avoidance and habits that keep anxiety alive, you can begin to feel more comfortable and confident showing up in social situations.
4
Agoraphobia Therapy
Agoraphobia can involve overwhelming fear of being in places where it might feel difficult or awkward to leave if symptoms or bodily sensations occur (oftentimes panic). You might notice yourself avoiding certain situations, feeling more comfortable staying home, or feeling judged by others who don’t understand that leaving may feel impossible.
In our work together, we take a structured, step-by-step approach to gradually work through feared situations so nothing feels too overwhelming or fast. I’m there with you through the process, cheering you on along the way. As things begin to shift, many people notice a sense of freedom in being able to go places more easily, make plans, and feel less restricted in their day-to-day life.
